This week I learned about three amazing inventions. The first one was the suspension bridge. The suspension bridge impacted history because the supplies were relatively cheap. It was also light given their strength and length. We still use suspension bridges to this day and they are much better from back then.
The 2nd invention I learned about this week was the fire hydrant. The fire hydrant impacted history because back then the firemen used to have to dig up the ground to find a pipe and drill in to it and have water come up then start a bucket brigade. Fredrick gaff then made a plug to go into the pipe, so it was easier to get water out and get done faster to save more people. Later people copied the system and Graff’s plug spread. Then later the fire hydrant was created and that helped save a lot of people.
The 3rd invention we learned about this week was the locomotive. The locomotive impacted history because now people could travel faster in less time. Also, it changed the way people ate because people now could bring food home without it rotting or being unhealthy to eat. It made people healthier. In 1900 it helps to transform great Britian and America for the better.
The most interesting thing I learned was how one fire hydrant saved a Neighborhood in San Francisco. It was during the great earthquake of San Francisco. Most of the fire hydrants broke except one in the city. That fire hydrant saved a neighborhood. Now on the memorial of the earthquake they spray paint fire hydrants gold and add wreaths to remember that day and the people we lost. I think it is interesting because one survived and save a neighborhood. These amazing inventions changed the world for the best and for people.
