This week we learned about the physics and motion of rockets. The four forces that affect rocket motion are weight, thrust, drag, and lift. For a rocket to move, the trust comes out the bottom and it pushes it upwards. The thrust of a rocket needs to be greater than weight for the rocket to move. The reason model rockets have fins are because they are unstable without them. The fins help stabilize the rocket. The nozzle produces the control torque. In a thrust system, the exhaust nozzle of the rocket can be swiveled from side to side. The nozzle is moved, the direction of the thrust is changed relative to the center of gravity of the rocket.
