The first invention I learned about this week was dynamite. Alfred Nobel invented dynamite after his brother was killed in an explosion. Dynamite is a powerful explosive that is stable and useful for demolishing hard materials. Nobles’ brothers extended its use into mining, and railroad companies. It was used extensively in tunnel building. It led to the creation of the Noble Peace Prize. It also expanded economic output in construction and mining.
The second invention I learned about this week was the Chuckwagon. Charles goodnight invented the Chuckwagon when he moved into cattle driving. The Chuckwagon is a portable kitchen that stored food and let the cook prepare meals for the trail cowboys. The lure of beef profits increased with the cattle drives. Cattle driving was a definitive period of the wild west and left a big impact in the history of the Chuckwagon.
The third invention I learned about this week was the typewriter v2. Christopher Sholes invented the modern typewriter in 1867 after consulting with different inventors. Typewriters allow people to write faster and neater than they can with pen and pencils. Sholes typed up sales letters to send to investors with his typewriter. The typewriter led to the computer keyboard.
The fourth invention I learned about this week was ticker tape. Edward Calahan invented ticker tape in 1867 with his knowledge of the telegraph. It printed real time stock information. It provides continues updates. The invention was improved and became standard by the 1870’s.
The most interesting thing I learned about this week was the Chuckwagon. Whoever used the Chuckwagon had to point it north to move. They had to move it North because the cattle drives traveled North. That way they knew where to go. That is the most interesting thing I learned about this week.
