The first invention I learned about this week was riveted blue jeans. Levi’s Strauss and Jacob Davis invented the blue jeans in 1873. The blue jeans have a riveted design to strengthen the jeans. They are comfortable and durable pants. The jeans spread rapidly for railroad and farm workers. They are still very popular to this day. They are historic parts of the cowboys because they wore jeans all the time. Jeans and jean like products are still growing in popularity today.
The second invention I learned about this week was the fire sprinkler. Fire extinguishers were great for smaller fires but did not do well for big fires. That is when Henry Parmalee invented the fire sprinkler in 1874. The fire sprinkler actives its water deluge when detecting heat from a fire. Parmalee informed insurance companies about the new fire sprinkler. Grinnel improved the old fire sprinkler design. The fire sprinkler helps save many buildings and people’s lives.
The third invention I learned about this week was the QWERTY keyboard. Christopher Latham Sholes was working in Wisconsin when he invented the QWERTY keyboard layout in 1878. QWERTY is the most common layout for a keyboard to this day. It optimizes typing speed. The typewriter industry lead to computers and the market of QWERTY keyboard layout on phones.
The fourth invention I learned about this week was the dental drill. George Green invented the dental drill by adopting pneumatic drill with a electric motor. The drill turns at a very high speed which are used to remove decay as painlessly as possible. Dental procedures keep our teeth and gums healthy with little to no pain.
The most interesting thing I learned about this week was riveted blue jeans. The reason I found this interesting was because blue jeans can be found one hundred fifty years ago. This is crazy because most workers that wore the jeans never washed them. That is the most interesting Fact I learned about this week.
