History lesson 130

The first invention I learned about this week was the light switch. John Henry Holmes invented the quick breaker switch. The genius of a inventor got this idea after watching a demonstration put on by Joseph Swan. This great new invention allows us to easily light our homes, offices, and run various equipment. The toggle switch was then invented in 1917 and took over by being incorporated in building codes. The light switch today is one of the most used invention.

The second invention I learned about this week was the skyscraper. William Jenny, an accomplished genius engineer invented the skyscraper after, noticing a bird cage in 1884. This amazing new invention revolutionized city’s. The invention allowed more people and business to be in the same city at one time. This invention allowed New York and Chicago to expand. This invention changed business design, it also accelerated the economy.

The third invention I learned about this week was the dishwasher. The dishwasher was invented sometime around 1893. Hand washing dishes in America became a major issue for the American people. It was messy, and it took too long. The dishwasher was originally invented by Josephine Cochrane. She invented it because her servants were always breaking her dishes while washing them. Due to her husbands passing, she didn’t have the money to replace them. The dishwasher used high pressure water to clean plates and kill all the germs on them.

The fourth invention I learned about this week was the electromagnetic waves. Heinrich Hertz experimentally proved the existence of waves that had been predicted by Maxwell. The waves travel at the speed of light and are able to carry information over great lengths. Hertz, did not know what they could be used for, right after his passing they invented wireless telegraphy. Hertz invention was able to give us radio, phone, and tv.

My favorite invention I learned about this week was the skyscrapers. I found this cool because it helped people to live and work at city’s full time. That was a cool fact I learned about this week in school. These inventions all had a big impacted on history and helped people a lot.
