The first invention I learned about this week was Coca-Cola. John Pemberton invented the drink called Coca-Cola in 1886. Coke is a carbonated beverage that contains sweeter, caffeine, and coca flavoring. Coke adverting was mostly about the benefits early on. But, as time went on coke became apart of American culture. Today we have a wide variety of soft drinks to chose from.
The second invention I learned about his week was the induction motor. From Edison and Westinghouse developments, it created a electric market. Nikola Tesla quit his job at Edison company and invented the induction motor in 1887 and 1888, it was no sure when it was invented. It uses rotating magnetic fields to turn the drive shaft. It then coverts electricity to motion. Tesla partnered with Westinghouse, and now the induction motor is the most used motor today
The third invention I learned about this week was the ball point pen. John Loud invented the ball point pen in 1888 to write on rough surfaces. The ball point pen is great it can write on rough surfaces, dries quickly, and is easy to use. The ball point pen became successful by the 1930’s with advancements in ink chemistry. The BIC pens are one of the most popular pens to use.
The fourth invention I learned about this week was the zipper. Whitcomb Judson invented the zipper in 1890 after getting angry buttoning his shoes. Zippers allow us to easily zip up and down every day clothes and bags. Judson brought his zippers to the world fair. It became big after Levi Strauss put them on his jeans. Zippers are used every day and made the modern back pack possible.
The most interesting thing I learned about this week was the zipper. I found this interesting because you use zippers almost every day. For clothes and bags. That was a cool fact I thought about this week.
