History lesson 140

The first invention I learned about this week was the diesel engine. Rudolph diesel invented the diesel engine, in 1893 to be more efficient than the steam engine. The diesel engine is reliable, fuel efficient, and robust. The new invention was embraced quickly in the beginning in 1894. The engine than made its way onto ships and locomotives to replace the steam engine.

The second invention I learned about this week was the mousetrap. William Hooker invented the modern day mouse trap in 1894. The mousetrap is spring load and once the mouse grab chesses on the trap the spring loaded bar swings down and snaps the mouse’s neck. A lot of mousetrap companies sold out and worked together, and improved the trap. The mouse trap is still a common trap to use to catch mice.

The third invention I learned about this week was the radio. Marconi applied Hertz’s discovery of electromagnet waves to the practical telegraphy of Morse in 1895. Radios can transmit real time audio. They also have video information to multiple users over great distances. This invention helped save people on the titanic in 1912. We use radios from car, to boat, to plane. The radio was one of the most important inventions ever.

The fourth invention I learned about this week was the semi automatic shotgun. John Browning invented the semi automatic shotgun in 1898. The new design of the shotgun allows you to rapidly fire. The new gun was advertised for hunters and sportsmen.

The most interesting thing I learned about this week was the radio. I found this cool because we use it every day in cars and radio waves for TVs. That was A cool fact I learned this week.
