History lesson 165

The first invention I learned about this week was the Unix. Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie invented Unix after Bell labs pulled out of the Multics project. Unix is a more programmer friendly, basic operating systems that can be used on different types of computers. Bell labs used it on it’s machines and licensed it to other companies to build there own versions.

The second invention I learned about this week was the microprocessor. Intel invented the 4004 microprocessor in 1971 after refining the design Busicom gave them for there calculator. The microprocessor contains the generic CPU and memory. It was allowing the same design to be used multiple applications. Many modern appliances and tools use these microprocessor.

The third invention I learned about this week was the video game console. Ralph Baer invented the video game console after being a germen immigrant who was interested in electronics. They produce highly visual and exhilarating, immersive entertainment at home. Atari led the first generation of video game consoles, but after saying it was a toy it crashed in the market. Now the gaming market is bigger than the film market.

The fourth invention I learned about this week was the VHS and the VCR. The VCR was invented by JVC in 1977 after they developed the VHS formant. The VCR enables recording, time shifting, and watching one show while recording at the same time.

I think program as time goes on it will more important because more people relay on technology than ever. So I think people would make a lot of money developing and designing computer software in this time and date.
