Hadrian became emperor in 117 and quickly secured the support of the legion and senate. Hadrian ruled 21 years and was very involved in the governing of the empire. Before he became emperor, Hadrian had traveled throughout the empire. He continued this practice during his time as emperor and was outside of Italy for over half of his reign.

He wanted to straighten the empire through improving the existing core rather than conquering new frontiers. He is considered the third of the 5 good Emperors. His final years were spent in Roam as his health declined, he died in 138 AD.
