Swiss Family Robinson is a survival story novel. Survival stories are stories where a main character from a civilized place finds himself trapped on an uninhabited land. Swiss Family Robinson follows a family’s ten-year sojourn in a land only inhabited by beasts before their arrival. Like most survival stories, it is made of four main parts.
I. The setting of the stage, how did the main character end up where he is?,
II. The exploring of the area in which the main character will have to survive,
III. The moment of crisis, does the main character move from living at the bare minimum to living comfortably? If so how?
IV. The resolution, how does the main character go back to civilization? Does he? What did he miss while stranded?
Swiss Family Robinson contains all these parts. It’s setting of the stage is when the family whose father is the main character is shipwrecked on an uninhabited land. The father is with the family being the only survivors. The family explores the area and finds it’s a tropical place with many exotic animals and plants. The moment of crisis is when the family establishes several farms and dwellings across the land.
The resolution is when they are rescued by an English ship. However, some of them willingly stay and the island and the English planned to bring more settlers to the island. I hope you liked my essay.
