History lesson 165

Fathers of The Church

Polycarp studied under the apostle John, therefore he is deemed as a Apostolic Father. He is remembered mostly for what he said moments before he was killed. Before he was killed he was given the chance to walk away if he were to give up Christianity. To this he said ” Eighty and six years I have served Jesus and he has done me no wrong, how then can I blaspheme my King and savior! Bring forth what thou wilt!

Jerome was part of early Church Father’s. This meant he was under the Apostolic Fathers but still had a decent impact on the church. He wasn’t always a Christian but after he fell ill he converted. He then lived as a hermit to help him focus on things like translating the bible into Latin.

Augustine was also part of the early church father’s. As a young adult he was wild and like partys. After he converted he wrote two books named Confession and The City of God. Confession is the earliest autobiography we have. The City of God is a book contrasting the life of man and the life of God.

These are three Church Fathers I learned about this week. All of them are very important to the early Church and did many great things. Thank you for reading. I hope you like my essay.
