King Arthur and England
There are many legends and stories about King Arthur and his special sword the Excalibur. It has been passed on as myth throughout time. But you have to wondered if it could actually be true or not. Then you might think “Wow couldn’t King Arthur be real?”. Well, there are several debates about that, but we’re not focusing on that today. Instead we are focusing on his acts, historically, and his impact on today and how he came to be known.
King Arthur was supposedly a British king who supposedly, led the defense of Britain against invaders. King Arthur was first reported in Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae, which translates to the History of the Kings of Britain. Historically he led the Britons in battle to fight the Battle of Badon Hill. The last battle between the Anglo-Saxon’s and the Britons is said to have killed thousands of enemy soldiers. Many stories and details added after the first few historical accounts may not have been true. No one is sure if Geoffrey of Monmouth’s account is entirely true or entirely false. But at the Battle of Badon Hill, it’s said that he had killed about one thousand soldiers. Quite a fine king they had there! But it is possible that there was a King Arthur ruling the British in 5-6 A.D. .Now he’s taken as a historical role model, demonstrating strength, bravery, and courage.
King Arthur, whether real or not, he is still a role model. He may or may not have led the British to victory at the Battle of Badon Hill and may or may not have killed 960 soldiers. But who knows? Maybe someday we will know the truth about King Arthur. I hope you like my essay.
