How to Select a Soldering Iron

You really don’t want to use an iron with too much voltage, or the object you are soldering could and might explode. You’ll be just fine just as long as you don’t loose more heat than the iron can replace. When the tip touches the object, it will get cooler. When the tip is pulled away, the temperature will rise again.
You usually want to pick a tip slightly smaller than the pad you’re soldering on to. Conical, screwdriver, and spade are the most common tip shapes you can get. You want to get it as much of a surface area between the tip and work as possible. To preserve the tip life, you can reduce the tips temperatures. Also, regular cleaning helps too.
Soldering iron “stations” can control the heat being supplied to the tip. Some soldering stations heat up the tip immediately after you turn it on. Some stations also let you swap iron tips which perhaps very useful. Soldering is a great way to make an electrical connection between objects.
