Essay Topic: Using the video lessons from this week, the reading assignments from each lesson, and the chart of the kings of Israel and Judah, write a summary of the history of either Judah or Israel.
I chose to write about the Israelite Kings. There were a lot. There were Jeroboam, Nadab, Basha, Elah, Zimri and Omri. They were all wicked kings. Omri was the worse one of them all. The first good king of Israel was Ahab. He would help the people turn back to God for all his reign. Ahaziah returned to worship of idols and that went all the way to Jehu, who was asked by God to kill all Ahab’s descendants. His family included Jezebel, Joram, and Ahaziah from Judah. Ahaziah from Judah was the grandson of Ahab, while king Ahaziah from Israel was the son of Ahab.
Jehu for some of his time was righteous but some of it he was not righteous and worshiped idols. Jehu’s descendants stayed on the throne for four generations. Jehu was succeeded by Jehoahaz. Who was succeeded by Jehoash. Who was succeeded by Jeroboam II. Who finally was succeeded by Zechariah. Zechariah was assassinated by Shallum. Four of the last five kings of Israel were assassinated because when there was a general who wanted to become king he would just assassinate the king so he could become king. The last king of Israel, Hoshea, was defeated by Assyria and they were put into captivity and the kingdom of Israel fell in 722 BC.
