English lesson 50 Autobiographies

Writing assignment: Write 500 words on this topic: “Has any piece of literature affected you in a major way? If so, explain how. If not, explain why not.”

One piece of literature that has really impacted me is the Bible. Although the Bible is not the first book or autobiography that comes to mind, it is still one piece of literature everyone should read. Even if you don’t believe it’s true, you can still find stories with really good morals. Some people could even look at the Bible as a series of autobiographies.

The Bible goes through many people’s lives, whether it be Adam and Eve, Noah and his family, Moses, David, Job, or Solomon. But the one person that comes to mind when you say “the Bible” is Jesus. The Bible has affected my life in a major way. I have accepted Jesus into my life, and because of that, the Bible has changed from a book to the word of God. Every part has affected me. What has impacted me most has been the teachings of Jesus.

Jesus has taught me to forgive others. Col 3:13, not to lust (Matt 5:28), not to swear/use the Lord’s name in vain (Matt 5:34-37), not to get mad (Eph 4:26-27 and James 1:19), not to gossip (Romans 1:29), lie (Col 3:9), murder (Exo 20:13), trust the Lord (Proverbs 3:5), not to fear (Psalm 34:4), and so much more. The Bible has helped me through some tough times. It may be I am scared about something, worrying, or getting mad when it’s not going my way. But I try to always look to the Bible first.

Even if you are not a Christian, I think you can still benefit from reading the Bible. You may not believe it’s true, but a lot of it has been found to be historically true. It is a great history book even if you don’t believe the teachings. You can read Psalms as poetry or Proverbs as wisdom writing. The Bible has great lessons also to apply to your life. Whether it be school, family, friendships, or hard decisions, the Bible is a great place to look.
