Write 500 words on this topic: “Is there a difference between state-subsidized churches and state-subsidized schools?”
First, we must answer the simple question of what is a government subsidy. A government subsidy is a “financial benefit, such as a cash payment or tax break provided by the government to individuals, businesses, or industries.” These subsidies are quite often used to lighten financial burdens, lower the prices of essential goods, and support specific economic and social policies. These subsidies on schools and churches allow the government to manipulate our values, beliefs, and morals. These subsidies cause citizens to have reduced individual freedom and reduced independent thinking.
I believe there is no difference between state-subsidized schools and churches. A school or church should not have state subsidies. When you allow the state to give financial benefits to these two organizations, it allows the government to control them. If a school needs more money or a tax break and the government gives it to them, the school will rely on them again and again. If a school doesn’t want to lose their source of money, the school will then agree to what the state says. That means if the state wants to change what the school is teaching, the school will have to. This subsidy creates a reduced freedom for the school. The government funding gives the state the power, not the people.
The same goes for churches. If you let the state give subsidies to churches, it will once again allow the government to shape their thoughts. People should decide for themselves how churches teach. If you allow the state to give them tax breaks or help with finance, it gives the state the power to decide what they teach. The people of the church might be scared of losing financial help, so they have to let the state decide.
Taxpayers, teachers, students, church goers, and more will be forced to fund ideas they disagree with. State subsidies, no matter what, push government agendas on families, which ultimately allows the state to control education, religion, and morals. The more government help, we have the more freedom we lose. The people should decide on schools and churches themselves, not have the government influencing every thought.
